AIRPORT PROJECTS :

Detroit Metropolitan Airport

Wayne County, Michigan

• 1990-1993 Primary Power Cable Replacements Phase I & II; virtually all existing airport 4800v power feeds totaling over 10 miles of 15Kv cable were replaced.


• 1993 Re-construction of Pump House 1; upgrading all electrical feeds and equipment.


• 1994-1997 Airfield Lighting & Signage Replacement; involving the entire airfield lighting & signage was replaced or rewired.


• 1996-1997 Northwest Airlines "C" Concourse Expansion; phase 1 involved airfield modifications to allow for the expansion of the "C" Concourse, phase II involved the concourse addition adding 6 new gates.


• 1997 Airfield Tagging, Monitoring & Centerline Lighting Project, where all airfield lighting fixtures were tagged and mapped to facilitate maintenance; a state-of-the-art monitoring system was installed to monitor critical lighting on runway 3L/21R; and centerline lights were added at the most frequently used taxiway intersections.


• 1993-Present- Ferndale has performed miscellaneous electrical work on a time & material bases for Wayne County at the Airport.


• 1997 During the Christmas Holidays, emergency repairs were performed on the primary power feeders at Willow Run Airport when a old lead splice failed in a manhole and caused the destruction of over a mile of existing underground cable. Ferndale provided temporary power to all facilities effected by the failure and removed the old lead cable and replaced with new. All work was completed working around the clock in a ten day period.


• 1998 During the summer, while the TWA Air Freight building was being demolished making way for the new common use air freight site, an existing electrical duct bank was ripped out damaged an existing 5kv feeder that provided power to most of the facilities at the Northeast corner of the Airport. We established a temporary feeder around the damaged area then repaired the duct bank and replaced the cable.


• 1999-2001 Pump House 11 involves all required electrical work for the new pump house with 6-900HP 4.8Kv pumps, in addition to work involving the installation of a new power feed requiring over one mile of underground duct bank construction and installation of 15Kv cable and splices.


• 2000- UPS, gateway ramp expansion, on the airfield side of the airport. Requiring modifications to UPS's freight facility, involving renovations to the overhead and runway lighting system & glycol recovery system.
